For this sculpture project we all made a clay sculpture, I decided that I wanted mine to be an abstract face. One side was mostly done by using my hands to create texture and pull the clay to form less harsh shapes that have more flow to it.. The other side I used a few different tools to carve out these unusual petal shaped curves that where sharp in contrast to the other side.

After doing the soap layers I then put the two sides back together and used a netting dipped in plaster to seal around the seam. After this I propped up the mould in a metal box and started to fill making sure there where no air bubbles as I did it. After this I then let it all set and dry so it would be ready to chip away in the next session.

I then cut away some of the messy parts at the bottom so that it loos overall cleaner and more finished. After making the sculpture I then used plastic squares to create a line that will break up the two sides of the mould so it can later break it apart.

After flicking the plaster and building up two sides of the mould I had to separate the two sides by using a spray bottle and getting the holes made from the clay wedges. I also made some circular holes around the mould so it was easier to line it up after. After it was wet enough I started using a hammer to start prying the two sides away from each other and after this was done I washed them. I was them left with the two sides of the moulds.
Then I applied three layers of this mixture that was mostly made of hot water and sort of soap. This was done after each layer had dried. This is so that when getting my sculpture out it would be slightly easier and would have a waxy layer to help.

This is when I started to chip away the mould to reveal the sculpture. I started this with a hammer and a piece of wood as this helped me get most of the bigger sections come off quite easily and the later went in with a screwdriver to get the more delicate sections out. overall I think this process went quite well and most of the sections came of quite easily.

The last step was to wash the the sculpture by washing the sections that you wanted to highlight which I think I ended up washing off too much. Apart from this I really like the overall way my sculpture turned out and how the design turned out too. I also quite enjoyed this process as a whole and would do this again if I had a certain idea that fitted to this type of sculpture.
